History
Dhirubhai returned to india after a stint with A. Besse & Co. Aden .He started yarn trading from a small 500sq ft. Office in masjid bunder Mumbai.
In1966 reliance went on to become the biggest textile brand with “only vimal”
1991 ril made a landmark entry in petroleum sector n became worlds largest polyester producer.
2000 frst oil n gas discovery ;it was world’s largest discovery of that year . In 2002 entered infocom business and triggerd revolution in mobile telephony.
Highlights of Year Performance
Turnover increased by 31.4% to ` 339,792 crore ($ 66.8 billion)
Exports increased by 41.8 % to ` 208,042 crore ($ 40.9 billion)
PBDIT decreased by 3.3% to ` 39,812 crore ($ 7.8 billion)
Profit Before Tax increased by 2.0% to ` 25,750 crore ($ 5.1 billion)
Cash Profit decreased by 7.3% to ` 31,994 crore ($ 6.3 billion)
Net Profit decreased by 1.2% to ` 20,040 crore ($ 3.9 billion)
Gross Refining Margin at $ 7.6 / bbl for the quarter and $ 8.6 / bbl for the year ended 31st March 2012
Dividend of 85%, payout of ` 2,941 crore ($ 578 million)
Notes on Standalone Accounts:
The Company had revalued plant, equipment and buildings situated at Patalganga, Hazira, Naroda, Jamnagar, Gandhar and Nagothane in earlier years. Consequent to revaluation, there is an additional charge for depreciation of 2,340 crore ($ 460 million) for the year ended 31stMarch 2012 which has been withdrawn from the Reserves. This has no impact on the profit for the period ended 31st March 2012.
