Introduction
Visa Card Authentication is the process whereby the identity of the cardholder is verified by their issuing bank. When a MasterCard or Visa cardholder visits your store, our software automatically detects whether the issuing bank is participating and the cardholder is enrolled. If the cardholder is enrolled, a pop-up window is displayed and they are prompted to enter their password to verify their identity with their issuing bank. Through this process, the issuing bank confirms the cardholder's identity in real time. Here we are going to avoid the old password based authentication system with our new access passcode generation which will be generated and sent as a message to the card holder’s mobile phone.
Existing System
In the process of password authentication for banks are terribly insecure. The PIN number for every account is equal to the account number, and that number is printed on the card. As a result, a criminal can forge cards or use a stolen card.
When the customer inserts the card into an ATM and enters the PIN the system checks the PIN. The implementation of ATMCardAuth that we gave you is terribly insecure. It puts the same check bytes on every card (the byte values 0, 1, 2, ..., 31), and it accepts the entered PIN. It is very difficult for human being to remember long length of PIN code. So banks are very keen in giving small PIN number but if the PIN is small it can be easily cracked.
Proposed System
This paper describes a method of implementing two factor authentication using mobile phones. The proposed method guarantees that authenticating to services, such as online banking or ATM machines, is done in a very secure manner. The proposed system involves using a mobile phone as a software token for One Time Password generation.
The generated One Time Password is valid for only a short userdefinedperiod of time and is generated by factors that are unique to both, the user and the mobile device itself. Additionally, an SMS-based mechanism is implemented as both a backup mechanism for retrieving the password and as a possible mean of synchronization. The proposed method has been implemented and tested. Initial results show the success of the proposed method.
