INTRODUCTION
Thermal spray coatings is the coating of some metal by spraying with application of heat on the surface of other metal to increase their wear and corrosion resistance properties.
The coatings applied may be of metals such as aluminum, tungston-carbide,silicon-carbide,ceramics etc.
What is Thermal Spray?
Thermal spray is NOT a welding process
Thermal spray coatings are a melted, or softened ceramic, metallic, or polymer materials are transported by a gas stream to a properly prepared substrate.
EFFECT OF HOT ROLLING AND COLD ROLLING AFTER SPRAYING
When the work piece metal after spraying cold pressed and hot pressed then there is variation in reinforcement, and porosity percentage, average roughness.
CONCLUSIONS
The mild steel can be coated with different metal such as aluminums ,silicon carbide(sic), tungsten carbide(wc), and ceramics.
The wear resistance can be increased by addition of some reinforced materials.
Due to the coating the tool life is increasing during machining.
