INTRODUCTION
This modern world is totally dependent on the electricity as it has become part of the our life.
Day by day it’s use are increasing for domestic, commercial and industrial purposes. This electricity is produced with the help of some suitable power production unit known as power plant.
The electrical power is generated by TPS, NPS, HPS etc. Greater amount of power is generated by TPS.
The generating station which converts heat energy of coal combustion into electrical energy is known as TPS.
SITE SELECTION OF TPS
AVAILABILITY OF COAL
ASH DISPOSAL FACILITIES
C. SPACE REQUIREMENT
D. AVAILABILITY OF WATER
E. AWAY FROM POPULATED AREA
DETAILS OF THERMAL POWER STATION
The whole arrangement of TPS can be divided into following stages
Coal handling plant
. Coal is a principle fuel in thermal plant.
2.As the huge amount of coal is required for the generation of electricity , it is stored in coal storage plant to avoid the shortage of coal in case of failture of transportation facilities.
ADVANTAGES
It has less initial cost.
It require less space.
The fuel cost is less.
It can be installed at any location irrespective of coal mines.
Huge amount of power can be generated by TPS
DISADVANTAGES
Maintenance cost is more.
Skilled persons are required for maintaining the power plant.
Running cost is more.
It pollutes the atmosphere
CONCLUSION
Thermal power stations has no other alternative in coming years of this century particularly for developing countries like India.
It can be 100% possible to improve the production of power. But when we see the other side of coil(that means regarding pollution)it is possible to improve up to 60%.
