which is the famous shopping center of Shimla. Mall Road is the main street in Shimla
the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, India. Constructed during British colonial rule,Most
major places of Shimla like Lakkar Bazaar, Mall, Scandal Point, Jakhoo hill, etc. are

beautiful building is constructed in Neo-Gothic style of architecture. It is a famous tourist
attraction of Shimla and should be visited when you come to Shimla.
When winter sets in and when the country had its first major snowfall of the year, most
news papers printed photos of the ridge submerged in clumps of fresh snow. The
grandeur Christ Church towering over the tall deodars is unmistakable.Than there’s the
attractive neo-Tudor State Library building which was built in 1910.
Christ Church
Christ Church, Shimla, is the second oldest church in North India, after St John's
Church in Meerut. It is a parish in the Diocese of Amritsar in the Church of North India.
Built in the neo-Gothic style in 1857 to serve the largely Anglican British community in
what was formerly called Simla, Christ Church is situated on The Ridge where it stands
out as one of the prominent landmarks of Shimla. The silhouette of Christ Church is
visible for miles around the vicinity of Shimla city. Christ Church remains one of the
enduring legacies of the British Raj.
Jakhoo Temple
Jakhoo Temple is dedicated to Hindu deity, Hanuman. It is hardly 2 kilometers from the
Ridge and is an uphill climb through the beautiful deodar trees. Shimla’s most famous
temple, a steep 30-minute hike up from the east end of the Ridge. The Jakhu Temple of
Simla is dedicated to the monkey God, Hanuman.
The temple has an interesting legend behind it. It is said that a deadly arrow injured
Lord Rama's brother Lakshmana when he was fighting the battle with the demon king
Ravana. A priest diagnosed Lakshmana and said that he needed a particular
Sanjeevani herb from the Himalayas to cure Lakshmana. Hanuman was sent to get that
herb from he lofty mountains. Upon reaching the Himalayas, Hanuman couldn't make
out as to which herb was the Sanjeevani. So he dug up the entire mountain and flew
back to where Lakshmana was lying injured
After Lakshmana was cured, Hanuman went back to place the mountain in its original
site. He rested on top of the Jakhu hill for sometime. It is said that the top of the hill got
flattened due to Hanuman's weight! The temple has been built around the place that is
supposed to have the footprints of Hanuman. It is a highly revered religious place of
Shimla and devotees throng in huge numbers to pray.
Lt. Governor of Himachal Pradesh late Raja Bajrang Bahadur Bhadari and Sh.
Bhagwan Sahai began with the construction of the temple in the year 1962 and finally
it was consecrated on the 21st of June,1966,
The hilltop is awash in devotional music and the temple houses a small shrine
surrounded by funky relief murals of Hanuman performing feats from the Ramayana.
