Abstract
This report of Service Behavior in Commercial banks raised has been prepared for the partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of BBA course in PU, based on two month's internship training at SBL. This report is fully based on the personal experience gained at the bank.
A report gives a brief introduction of the banking industry and the origin of the bank in the world as well as in Nepal. It provides detail about the number of commercial banks existing in the Nepalese financial market and provides information regarding range of services offered by SBL to its costumer, the number of branches that has been opened. This report will provide basic knowledge regarding the operation of Siddhartha Bank Limited.
INTRODUCTION
Background
This report is prepared as a part of the Internship Project in partial fulfillment for the requirements for the Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) Program.
As per the partial fulfillment of the course of study, Students are required to perform Internship individually as required by Pokhara University for a completion of two months in an Organization.
Internship has been a wonderful experience for me. Internship is the medium through which we can convert the theoretical concept into practical one. This intern has been a window to our outer world. It not only gives us the ability to think and be able to give decision at real time but also shows us the way in which an office environment is like and how it functions, what motivates employee to perform well.
In the global business context, everybody needs to have adequate information and knowledge about the changing business environment. Every business nowadays has to face the cutthroat competition. It is necessary to have the real-time knowledge with theoretical aspects. Getting real-time knowledge with theoretical concept nowadays is about getting practical knowledge entering into the workplace, so that we may not face problems being into the workplace after our university degree.
Objective of Internship
The basic purpose of internship is to give and enable the students to be acquainted with the practical aspect of the Nepalese business practices and gain various aspects of Nepalese business environment, so that they can utilize their theoretical knowledge in the real-time situation. The internship program will help the students to face the problems in the workplace and increase their confident level.
Duration Served
As per the academic requirement of the BBA program under Pokhara University, I joined SBL for the internship for a period of ten weeks, from 28th April,2010 to 30th June, 2010. In the period of this intern, all the bank members supported me to gain a complete knowledge that really helped me to develop my interpersonal skills and the practical knowledge about the Organization, which make me able to learn the bank’s culture, work environment, and various transactional procedures during the period.
During these weeks, different departments were visited and activities, attendance, behavior, discipline and effort made to understand banking functions. It really helped to develop and refine managerial and interpersonal skills
INTRODUCTION OF BANKING INDUSTRY
Origin of Bank
The word “Bank” is derived from an Italian word "Banko” which means a brench. The history of " modern banking “had started from the bank of England in1694 and later” joint stock bank" was established in England in 1883.In Nepal the system of granting loan was prevailing from the ancient time. In the 14th century, a class called "thandakari" used to exchange money &provide loan. However, in Nepal, banking started with the establishment of "Nepal Bank limited "in 1937.The origin of the banking, in the modern sense, is traced to Italy. The word 'bank' is supposed to have been derived from the Italian word 'benko' which means BENCH the early banking is however closely associated with the business of money changing. In connection to the traceable origin and development of banking institution in the world, "The Bank of Venice" of Italy established in 1157A.D. is supposed to be most ancient banking institution in the world. "The Bank of Venice" was the first public banking institution. The second banking institution namely, "The Bank of Barcelona" of Spain established in 1407A.D. subsequently. "The Bank of Geneva" was established in 1407A.D. Lombard migrated to England and other part of Europe from Italy are regarded for the development and expansion of modern banking. "The Bank of Amsterdam" set up in 1609A.D. was very popular. "The Bank of Hindustan" established in 1770A.D. us regarded as the first bank in India. These modern banks gradually replaced goldsmiths and money lenders.
Growth of Bank in Nepal
The ancient bankers of Nepal were Goldsmith and landlords. In those days, the banking needs of the people were fulfilled to some extent by the organized financial institutions “The Tejarath Adda”. However, not all the financial activities were carried out by it. Prime Minister Ranoddip Singh (1993 BS) took first step for the institutional development of the banking in Nepal. Formation of industrial Development Board called “Udyog Parisad” was the landmark in opening new avenue in the field of banking industry and commerce in Nepal and thus helped to enhance the economic status in the country.
The formal banking sector in Nepal started with the establishment of Nepal Bank Limited. It was established in 1994 after six decades of the establishment of “Tejarath Adda”. After that, Nepal Rastra Bank was established in 2013. In the year 2022, Rastriya Banijya Bank was established. The Agriculture Development Bank was established in the year 2024 B.S. by observing the cooperative bank.
