Aircraft arrester barrier system
AABS system is used at the end of runway to stop the forward movement of aircraft overshooting the runway in the case of emergency landing.
VARIOUS PARTS OF THE AABS
Stanchion System
Energy Absorber System
Tape Retrieval System
Tape and Suspension System
Electrical system and their control system
Engaging system
Engaging System” refers to the equipment used to engage and envelope the aircraft. It is a subsystem of the complete arresting system.
Energy Absorbing System (EAS)
Energy absorber is the heart of an aircraft arrester barrier system and is mainly responsible for absorption of the energy of the trapped aircraft.
The BAK-13 is a bidirectional aircraft arresting system. It employs2 velocity-sensitive energy absorbers installed on opposite sides of the runway, interconnected by nylon purchase tapes and a 32-millimeter (1.25-inch) disc-supported pendant.
Conclusion
Energy absorber system is a crucial and very important part of Aircraft arrester barrier system. If there is any problem with this during operation whole AABS fails .
Hence it is necessary to give some backup to Energy Absorbing system (EAS).
The Eddy Current EAS along with hydraulic EAS is proposed.
Eddy current EAS is fully controlled.
The same Aircraft Arrester Barrier System could be used for different types aircraft (like light weight, heavy weight, etc.)
