Objective:
The road accidents are increasing at high rate now a day. Traffic authority also taking several measures to bring down the accidents. Immediate action will be taken if any violates the traffic rules. The drink and drive is one of the case because of which the road accidents may happen. Drinking is not an offense but drinking and driving is an offense. A drunken driver may not only cause harm to his life, he may take lives of others too. So this is one of the serious cases to be controlled. This project implements an automated system which checks for alcohol level of the driver and the engine will be turned ON only if the alcohol level is below some limit. Also the will check weather the driver is feeling sleepy by checking his head position by using tilt sensor.
Functional Description:
There will be a microcontroller 89c51 to which LCD, ADC, tilt sensor, motor, buzzer, and a key are connected. The alcohol sensor output is connected to the ADC the resistance of alcohol sensor is varied according to the alcohol content. The change is resistance leads to voltage change which is given as input to the ADC. The ADC will give corresponding output in terms of digital value.
The LCD is connected to display data like alcohol content and warning messages. The data which is to be displayed on the LCD and the command are sent through the data lines.
The tilt sensor is connected to one of the pins of the microcontroller. The pin will be turned high on detection of the tilt. The buzzer will be turned ON when there is any warning message.
As the module is turned ON, the controller will wait for ignition key. As the key is pressed, the ADC value will be checked. The engine will be turned ON only if the alcohol level is lesser than the limit. The ON and OFF condition of engine is shown by a motor.
The driver may have the alcohol even while driving. So the microcontroller will be keep checking for the alcohol level and tilt continuously. In case the level increases goes beyond the limit, the engine will be automatically turned OFF and a warning message will be displayed along with buzzer alert. If the tilt is detected, the buzzer indication and message will be given.
