ABSTRACT:
The term power quality means different things to different people. Power quality is the interaction of electronic equipment within the electrical environment. This consists of generators, Transformers, breakers, wiring and grounding. Good power quality would be a reliable supply of sinusoidal, 50Hz waveforms resulting in few operational anomalies. Adequate to superior power quality is essential for the smooth functioning of critical industrial processes. As industries expand, utilities become more interconnected and usage of electronically controlled equipment increases, power quality is risked. Hence Power quality is an increasingly important issue for all electrical consumers and becomes a major concern.
Power Quality has a dynamic, time-varying nature which with the increased complexity and sensitivity of equipment needs to be properly understood and addressed. Traditional methods are not sufficient. Hence new signal processing techniques for real time measurement of various power quality parameters are to be employed. Signal processing techniques are applied for real time measurement of power quality parameters such as frequency, harmonics, flicker and disturbances.
