WHY DOES BIOMEDICAL WASTE CAUSE SOIL POLLUTION?
Hospital waste contaminated by chemicals used in hospitals is considered hazardous. These include disinfectants, and mercury, which is used in thermometers or equipment that measure blood pressure. Most hospitals in India do not have proper disposal facilities for these hazardous wastes.
Direct exposure to chemicals in hazardous waste such as mercury and cyanide can be fatal.
And also because,
Things like soiled swabs, syringes, bandages, body fluids, human excreta can be infectious and cause threat to human health if not managed properly.
Out of every 4 kg biomedical waste generated 1 kg is infectious.
