ABSTRACT
Normally in boiler the flue gas is left out through chimney which would be maintained around 150‘c . At this temperature only the sulphur from flue gas is unreacted to form sulphuric acid . Our project deals with sulphur is eliminated through ESP and the temperature at chimney is used to boil the water as which again converted into steam. The steam is again sent back to super heater . So, that to produces superheated steam which can be used for power production.
THERMAL ELECTRICAL POWER STATION
Thermal electric power station realize in practice the ideal cycles namely. the Rankine cycle, the regenerative cycle, the operating cycle of internal combustion engines, and other cycles. In the thermal electric power station the thermal energy liberated during fuel combustion or nuclear reactions is converted first into the mechanical then into electric power.
METTUR THERMAL POWER STATION:
Mettur situated @56 north latitude and 77 48 east longitude . is a big industrial area in salem district of tamilnadu.the place is famous for the Dam. constructed across the river cauveri during the year 1928.two hydelpower stations of capacity 40mw and 200mw are already in existence.However.toeven out the fluctuations in generating capacity of tamil nadu grid mettur Thermal Power Station was proposed at mettur where Cauveri water is available for its use.
COAL LINKAGE
Mettur Thermal Power Station is getting its coal supply from Ranigani and mugma collieries Bengal/Bihar Area and Talchar collieries in Orissa State. Although, the coal linkage for the station is from singareni collieries in Andhra Pradesh, coal from singarenai is not being received.
WAGON TIPPLER:
4 Nos. Wagon tippler have been erected and these are capable of handling the coal received in railwy wagons.These triple coal wagons and unload the coal of about 58 tonnes per tippling into the hoppers.The coal is fed through mechanical conveyor system of capacity of 2800 tonnes/hr of coal. Two streams of 1400 Tonnes/hr. are availablc.space has been provided for stacking 4 lakhs tones of coal, which will be sufficient to feed all 4 units for 30days .
ASH DISPOSAL:
A dyke has been constructed across the permpallum valley which consists qf two settling ponds in series. The ash in the slurry pumped into the big pond at higher elevating setting down and partially clear water flows by-gravity to the second pond. After further settlement of ash,clear water is let into the river Cauveri, the water, let into the river is tested for very high degree of purity in accordance with standards fixed by the Environmental and Pollution Control Board.
Electro Static Precipitator(ESP):
Electro Static Precipitator has two set of electrodes from each other. The first set is composed of rows of vertical parallel plates and the second set consists of wires, and the wires are located between each pair of parallel plates.
The two sets of electrodes maintain an electrostatic field between them at high voltage and the flue gases are made to pass between these two sets of electrodes. The dust particles are ionized when passing in between the electrodes and attracted them to the electrode of opposite charge. The dust particles are removed from the collecting electrides. The voltage maintained between the electrodes is 30000 to 60000 volts.
