Van Gogh's style of painting was to paint in blots of colorful paint. When the violent colors are next to each other, they trick the eye in a sensation of movement. He painted a variety of things: people, landscapes, and objects.
Vincent van Gogh’s use of line and color expresses his emotions as he responded to the world around him. To him the colors he used had their own meaning and many expressive possibilities. His used striking colors and coarse brushwork in his artwork. Van Gogh used the styles of the Impressionists with an addition his own twist; leading him to develop a style of painting uniquely his own.
Drawing allowed van Gogh to capture light and images more quickly than with painting and it was often the case that he would sketch out his vision for a painting before starting the painting itself.
Van Gogh was considered one of the greatest Impressionists of all time, and the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt. He powerfully influenced the current techniques of Expressionism in modern art.
