INTRODUCTION
The economies in our respective countries have in recent years been seen to be strikingly developing due to the inputs added by the Information and communication technology. In many business centers, the growth of the number of customers visiting is seen growing day by day. This has led to ICT being effectively used to manage businesses as well as marketing and advertising products.
The introduction of the scripting languages has helped in developing dynamic web sites and monitoring systems.
PHP is a general-purpose server-side scripting language originally designed for web development to produce dynamic web pages. For this purpose, PHP code is embedded into the HTML source document and interpreted by a web server with a PHP processor module, which generates the web page document. It also has evolved to include a command-line interface capability and can be used in standalone graphical applications. PHP can be deployed on most web servers and as a standalone interpreter, on almost every operating system and platform free of charge. There is also commercial software such as RadPHP, a rapid application development framework for the PHP language. A competitor to Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP) server-side script engine and similar languages, PHP is installed on more than 20 million websites and 1 million web servers.
ABSTRACT
The report outlines in all its aspects why this system was considered for developing in the background information. Both the general and specific objectives describes why this system is important as justified by the rationale of the project.
The system design, model and coding provides the technical information about how this system was developed using the web scripting and authoring using php.
BACKGROUND
There is a growing rate in use of computerized systems for running the daily activities in both the private and public sectors. The governments as well as individuals are experiencing faster economic growth. The input from the ICT has been seen as having a great impact in making economies grow. This is because all ends of the world have become reachable in seconds. Businessmen talks directly to their customers from different parts of the world and even display their products to be seen by the customers.
However, there is still a problem that needs to be solved by the ICT, handling transactions in terms of keeping all the records of daily transactions for proper accountability. A business center also need to keep records of its manufacturers, suppliers and customers. This help in the efficient running of the business activities in order to ensure consistency as manufactures gets feedbacks in terms of quantity, branding and labeling, suppliers keeps constant supplies as well as keeping the customers database to know how past the business is competing for its market share. This led to the development of this NSM System for managing all the above stated.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Ngong Supermarket is located in the heart of Kampala City where it has a good access to the large number of people which the city receives in a day. It is therefore easily accessed by a large number of customers which goes there for their daily shopping.
The city workers and shoppers have little time for shopping and do not normally entertain queuing in a supermarket to pay for their handpicked commodities. They need quicker shopping and faster service especially when paying for their commodities/services.
To solve this, a system has been developed to manage the transactions as well as displaying the available stocks to the customers. Keeping information about various suppliers which supply the supermarket and the manufacturers which produce exactly what the buyers want has been challenging. But with NSM system, all is managed successfully and record keeping has been satisfactory.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
As information Technology is in high demand for the running of businesses, NSM System has been developed to ensure the following objectives are acheive;
• To manage daily transactions
• To render quick services
• To manage manufactures, suppliers and customers
• To avoid queuing in the supermarket
• To maximize efficiency
• To improve the overall performance of the business center
WELCOME NSM SYSTEM
LOGIN TO THE SYSTEM: The system provides different levels of access. It has a User and Administrators authentication entity. This allows Users to login and access the system with limited privileges to add, save or manipulate data while Administrators have full access and privileges to add, store and manipulate data in the system.
SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION
The System is made useful by the employees in the Supermarket especially the Customer care section which should always guide the customers in making them aware of what is available in stock instead of wasting time searching for what is not there.
The Sales and marketing department also makes use of the system when the cooperate with the manufacturers in marketing the products. The transaction is also made easy by keeping all the records in the system for reference and proper accountability.
CONCLUSION
The project report has widely established that there is a high demand for a database system for any large business center that receives large number of customers on daily basis like NSM Supermarket. The Supermarket requires this system to be able keep all the records about it customers, manufacturers and suppliers.
NSM system is widely applicable all kinds of businesses where data is gravely needed to be well kept for future reference, proper accountability in the business and the efficient running of the business.
