INTRODUCTION
While wireless communication technology today has become part of our daily life , the idea of wireless undersea communications may still seem far fetched.
However, research has been active for over a decade on designing the methods for wireless information transmission under water.
ACOUSTIC COMMUNICATION
Currently, acoustic modems are the most commonly used method of wireless under water data transmission.
They are capable of achieving solid data links within a 200 meter range.
LIMITATIONS:
It requires the signal path to be free of obstructions.
Communication is slow at low data rates
OPTICAL COMMUNICATION
It has been used effectively under water but its applications are limited due to the presence of environmental variable such as temperature and water clarity.
Optical channels are also highly directional, making them better suited to stationary sensors.
PROPOSED METHOD
The orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) communications have been chosen to test under water communications.
A new low complexity OFDM receiver has been proposed.
It has unique strength in application and error- free performance has been achieved.
