Remote installation service on server side
Install Remote Installation Services
On a Windows 2008 Server, click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remote Programs.
Double-click Add/Remove Windows Components.
Scroll down and select Remote Installation Services and Click Next.
Insert the Windows 2008 Server CD-ROM into the CD drive and click OK . The necessary files are copied to the server.
Click Finish to end the wizard.
Location for operating system image(xpsp2)
In this step we have to specify a location for IMAGE file in some specified folder
After that click next
It will copy all the necessary files for installation of respected operating system
It will be saved as a Image file in server
It will be available always for any number of systems
Control for remote installation server
This option controls whether this RIS server responds to client computers requesting service at the end of setup.
If this option is checked, the server will respond to clients and provide them with OS installation options.
If unchecked, this RIS server will not respond to clients requesting service.

Advantages of RIS
good methode for a dynamic installation
quick changes of configuration possible
Reduces the admin work (separate installation for every system)
automatic SID changing, sysprep is not needed
Disadvantages of ris
ISA- and PCMCIA-network adapter not supported
only one partition possible, the whole harddisk will be formated at the beginning of installation
server versions are not installable over RIS
