The main aimof the course is to acquaint students with the special features, characteristics of the academic style of scientific language, to give the explanation of factors and processes, which had an effect on the formation of contemporary scientific English; the more detailed study of the structure of English language and the analysis of scientific texts from the comparative- translation positions; the study of the information of scientific nature of the scientific information texts.The aim of the course is to distinguish the characteristics of English scientific writing through the study of specific examples of scientific style.
Objectives of the course:
1) to define the features of general scientific style with specific examples;
2) summarize the observations, highlighting syntactic, lexical features and scientific style in English.
3)to develop skills of a future specialist to distinguish the characteristics of a scientific vocabulary of English through the study of specific examples of scientific style.
Results of the study of the discipline:Students must possess general knowledge, among which the following: to possess the system of knowledge about the changes in the modern English language; to know how to evaluate problems, trends in the development of Scientific Lexis; to understand the methodological bases of the estimation of the state of English scientific language in connection with the lingual, social and political processes in the contemporary society; to know the significant differences between scientific English and ordinary English.
Process of learning a course involves the formation of students’ following general cultural competence (CC) and professional competence (PC):
- (CC) - 1) the ability to develop their general cultural and professional skills;
- (CC - 2) ability to acquire and use new knowledge and skills;
- (CC - 3) the ability to use a foreign language as a means of professional communication;
- (CC) - 4) the ability to conduct a scientific communication;
as well as to help students of various professional competencies:
- (PC -5) the ability to summarize and critically evaluate the results obtained by foreign researchers, to identify and formulate relevant scientific issues.
Prerequisites: Basic foreign language А1, А2, В1, В2

Academicpolicyof thecourse
A student shouldregularly attend all practical lessons and lessons on SIWT; do SIW, using recommended literatures or other resources in libraries or internet; attend and pass rating and final controls. CC (Current control) is the systematic control of the academic achievements on each theme and unit conducted by the teacher. Modular controlis divided into the first and second rating controls, which are held on the seventh and fifteenth week of the semester. The final rating is formed from marks of 2 current (module) rating and final exam. Current (module) rating I – 100 max points (30%), Current (module) rating II – 100 max points (30%) and exam – 100 MAX POINTS (40%).
SIWT: individual and group tasks, depending on the SIWT organization technology. An exam is conducted in the written form.
Boundary control format Midterm Exam
The rating for each job monitoring (solution of the problem, preparing presentations, essays, laboratory work, etc.) exhibited by the funded system and a total of 100 points in one boundary control.
BC1 and BC2 Evaluation, defined as the sum of votes of all kinds of monitoring tasks, is set in sheet boundary control, respectively, on the 7th and 15th weeks.
Midterm Exam held on 7-8 thweek .
Evaluation for Midterm Exam entered in the eighth week in a separate examination sheet on a 100-point scale and is taken into account in the final assessment on discipline as follows:
The final grade for the discipline = ((BC1+BC2) / 2) ∙ 0,6 + 0,1MT+ 0,3FC
BC1, BC2- assessment boundary control (monitoring the number of votes), MT - evaluation of the Midterm Exam; FC - Assessment of final control (exam during the session).
