Kinetic models for halogenation of aromatic compounds is preaperd and compared with experimental results, and found within good accuracy. Synthesis of gemini surfactant was done. Comparision of gemini surfactant compared to the conventional surfactant.
The racting or attacking positive chlorine species resides entirely in the aqueous phase. The attack of chlorine on phenol solubilized in micelle at para-position was prevented by the non-pollar miceller core, while the polar aqueous phase provided a more favorable locale for its attack at ortho-position. Thus, chlorination of phenol soulubilized in micelle is expected to be highly ortho-selective. In study related chlorination, the relationship between surfactant and enhancement in ortho-selectivity was studied. It was obesrved that concentration of surfactant is directly proportional to ortho-selectivity and at higher surfactant concentration ortho-selectivity reaches a limiting value.
