Graphics Kernal System (GKS)
GKS is device & application independent std. It performs its function at the interface between the application program & graphic packages.
It is the first significant graphic standard
This package is used for both 2-D & 3D
Features of GKS
It is a device independent hence it can work with all types of input & output device
All text are written & stored in natural language
Graphic function are defined for both 2D & 3D
It includes all types of display elements
GKS supports picture data into two routines, which are primitive, elements & their attributes
GKS defines an internal coordinate system called normalized device coordinate system of GKS
Programmer's Hierarchical Interface for Graphic standard (PHIGS)
This std is used for high functional system
It can handle dynamic graphics changes & can support segmentation of graphic display
It defines the set of device independent logical concept which can be used with set of PHIGS rules to store & retrieve data
