Seminar on Ozone generation and its application in Waste Water Treatment
Seminar on Ozone.ppt (Size: 1.85 MB / Downloads: 103)
What is Ozone
Ozone is triatomic oxygen with the chemical formula O3
Ozone is a light blue gas at room temperature and has a characteristic pungent odor.
It is a relatively unstable and reactive gas, therefore ozone exists in the lower atmosphere at low concentrations.
The greatest quantities of natural ozone are found at levels of up to 6ppm in the stratosphere.
Natural production of ozone is by either UV radiation or lightning.
Industrial Wastewater Treatment
Reduction of COD/TOC to meet discharge permits or lower sewer surcharges
Removal of specific toxic organics compounds
Removal of color
Reclaim/Reuse of wastewater
Why ozone treatment is advantageous?
Ozone’s properties provides multiple benefits in water treatment.
It has the most strongest oxidizing potential
Ozone is green.
Ozone is clean.
Ozone is natural and biocide.
Ozone is safe.
Ozone provides multiple benefits in waste water treatment
Used in the secondary and advanced treatment of waste water.
BOD, COD , TOC reduction.
Cyanide destruction.
Textile dye, starch, oil, grease, fats elimination.
Precipitation of heavy metals.
Pulp and paper effluents elimination.
Pesticide and insecticide elimination.
Powerful disinfectant
Improves coagulation and removes turbidity
No residual (compared to chlorine)
Stronger oxidant (compared chlorine/UV)
Ozone is Green
Ozone can replace chlorine, hot water, and steam
Saves energy/reduces carbon footprint
More powerful in cold water
Reduces need for hot water and steam
Conserves water
Reduces rinsing (and chemical) requirements
Reclaims wastewater
Purifies and conditions low-quality source water
conclusion
The study supports a conclusion that diffused ozone can be an environmentally sound and cost-effective .
ozone generators and diffusion systems that optimize gas mass transfer and wastewater interaction can be automated in secure self-contained units.
Furthermore, the limited number of moving parts minimizes wear and tear, which in turn reduces on going maintenance costs and labour requirements.
All raw sewage is completely oxidized such that there is no residual sludge requiring disposal. The only system output is clean
water suitable for surface discharge or reuse in industrial processes.
