Multi track recording
Employs elaborate setup
Advantages
Clear and tight sound.
Possible to capture the tonal balance of the instruments.
Leakage leading to coloration can be totally prevented.
Post production possibilities
Disadvantages
The setup is complicated to handle and maintain.
Artists will be deprived of the participatory enjoyment
Application : Orchestral music (film music)
Near field recording
Advantages
Reasonably clear and tight sound.
The effect of the enclosure will be minimal.
Artists will have the participatory enjoyment.
Leakage leading to coloration can be reduced.
Easy to setup.
Disadvantages
Sound can be harsh.
Lack of tonal balance.
Ambience will be missing.
Source localization and spread is totally lost.
Live recording, hence limited possibilities for post production.
Recording sound in this method needs careful effort.
Application : Recording of Indian classical music
