WHAT IS AUGMENTED REALITY
Augmented reality (AR) is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are augmented by virtual computer –generated imagery.
Augmented Reality (AR) is a variation or extension of Virtual Reality (VR)
AR vs. VR
Virtual Reality technologies completely immerse a user inside a synthetic environment.
In contrast, AR is a combination of the real scene viewed by the user and a virtual scene generated by the computer.
AR supplements reality, rather than completely replacing it. It creates the illusion that the virtual and real objects coexisted in the same space.
HEAD MOUNTED DISPLAY (HMD) AR
Images of both the physical world and registered virtual
graphical objects over the user's view of the world.
HMDs are either optical see-through or video see-through.
Advantage- user's immersive experience.
SPATIAL AR
Display graphical information onto physical objects.
Difference in SAR is that the display is separated from the users of the system.
Advantages- user is not required to carry equipment or wear the display over their eyes.
collaboration between users.
Disadvantage- require a surface on which to project the computer-generated graphics.
