The colour fastness is a fundamental requirement that the coloured textiles should withstand the conditions encountered during processing following coloration and during there subsequent useful life.
The colour fastness is a fundamental requirement that the coloured textiles should withstand the conditions encountered during processing following coloration and during there subsequent useful life.
When a coloured textile is subjected to particular conditions, e.g. light, washing, milling etc., one or more of several things may happen. As far as the colour of the material itself is concerned there may be alteration in depth, or in hue, or in brightness. In certain cases there may be alteration in all three.
In the present work, 15 different types of commercial reactive dyes belonging to ME, HE, VS, Cibacron FN, Everzol LF were used. The method used for the dyeing of cotton fabric was as per the recommendations of respective manufacturer. The cotton fabric was dyed in three different shades as 0.05%, 0.5% and 1.0%.The auxiliaries used in the dyeing like Soda Ash and Glauber\'s Salt were of AR grades. Cotton fabrics were dyed by taking three different ppm levels as 5, 10 and 20 of metal ions. Six different types of metal salts of Cu, Cr, Mn, Fe, Zn and Ni were used for the study.
The purpose was to find out effect of these metal ions on tone of dyeing and fastness properties particularly light fastness which is of concern in today\'s market. The tone was evaluated using computer colour matching system for colour values and light fastness was evaluated on Q-SUN Xenon Test Chamber; model no. Q-SUN XE – 3 – HS with AATCC 16 OPTION 3 test method.
