Chemical kinetics concerns itself with the measurement and interpretation of reaction rates. Thus, chemical kinetics is a tool in search for new knowledge of molecular behavior, and the measurement of reaction rates, it is also an essential tool in R& D of new processes and serves to define the set of values of process variables that will best fulfill the requirement of practical operations.

One such approach is to study the biotransformation kinetics, wherein enzymes are used to carry out chemical transformations. The works was mainly focused on the enzymatic resolution of an intermediate of API, dorzolamide and study the kinetics of biotransformation. Extensive work has been published on enzymatic resolution processes but only a few papers addresses the problems of kinetics of reactions catalyzed by enzymes in organic solvents. HPLC method was used for quantification.
Various biocatalysts (lipases) were screened for the desired biotrnasformation and the effect of different parameters such as catalyst loading, solvent used, mole ratio etc was studied and the kinetic parameters Vmax and Km were calculated.
