Abstracts: A wide range of building materials is available for the construction of buildings masonry wall. They may be naturally available or man-made. The proper selection of materials to be used in a particular building or structure may influence the original cost of construction, stability, strength, maintenance, ease of cleaning, durability and appearance. The project was carried out for the purpose of having detailed understanding of the compressive strength of masonry wall material like lime stones, bricks and cellular light weight concrete blocks to achieve the objectives stated above, several laboratory testing are conducted. The testing was conducted on the limestone, brick and cellular light weight concrete blocks by universal testing machine (UTM) in accordance with the standard testing methods and the procedure of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The testing was conducted in the Civil engineering wing, Renewable Energy & Rural Engineering Department, C.A.E.T., Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh. Compressive strength of lime-stone was changed with change in geographical location and depth of strata. Minimum and maximum strength of lime stone was 2.15 N/mm2 and 5.56 N/mm2. Minimum and maximum strength of burnt clay brick was 2.91 N/mm2 and 2.91 N/mm2.Fluctuation in the compressive strength of burnt clay bricks was lesser than that of lime-stones. Minimum and maximum strength of CLC blocks was 3.95 N/mm2 and 4.51 N/mm2.Fluctuation in the compressive strength of CLC blocks was lesser than that of lime-stones and burnt clay bricks. It showed excessive deformation under compressive stress. So it is suitable only for frame structures. After year 2001, earthquakes are frequently occurring in Saurashtra region. So people of this region are adopting frame structures instead of load bearing structures. In any frame structure if weight of masonry wall is more then it creates more momentum during earthquake, so the masonry wall should be kept light weight. For this aspect the use of CLC blocks is increasing in Junagadh region.
