ABSTRACT
Forensic examination is one of the most important fields in which applied science and technology are rapidly producing practical results. Forensic science is the application of a broad spectrum of sciences to answer questions of interest to a legal system. However, there has not only been a general increase I the volume of crime, but there is evidence that serious crime is now being carefully organized that police officers and lawyers fall prey to it because of lack of sufficient knowledge. Fingerprint identification is a relatively new science which is primarily a device to catch criminals, rather than a means by which to identify them after they are caught. The identification of a fingerprint is basically a comparison and match of two marks. In Nigeria and other African continents, the issue of finger double thumb print, identifies the right owner of properties, authenticating the legitimate user of valuable items has becoming a real challenging factors. Therefore, this seminar work review the uses o fingerprint for identification and authenticating of a legitimate ownership and valuable property from theft and intrusion, analyze the means of obtaining and testing a true specimen of culprits from crime scene, demonstrate the effect of finger double thumb printing as well as evaluate forensic expert in court and tribunal in the case of finger thumb print. The methodology used in this work includes studying of the operational documents, onsite observation, survey and surfing the internet. This seminar work is prepare to assist or cub crime in our society, off course I encourage everyone to spread this information to the downstream of the offshoot society; let them know the real benefits of fingerprints and how it can aid crime detection.
