Abstracts: Agriculture is the dominant sector of Indian economy, which determines the growth and sustainability. About 65 % of the population still relies on agriculture for employment and livelihood. The 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12) witnessed an average annual growth of 3.6 % in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from agriculture and allied sector. The growth target for agriculture in the 12th Five Year Plan is estimated to be 4 %. Backed by policy impetus by the Government of India, the country ranked 10th in global agricultural and food exports, as per Economic Survey 2012-13. “Exports of agricultural products are expected to cross US$ 22 billion mark by 2014 and account for 5 % of the world's agriculture exports,” according to the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). Despite the steps taken by the government and non-government bodies for the development of the agriculture and farming, the GDP has not increased comparatively to service sector that witnessed the GDP rate of 6.59 % in the year 2012-13 which is 59.29 % of total GDP of the nation while share of agriculture is only about 27.03 % which is nearly half of it. Among all the equipment used in the agriculture, Seed drill is one of the important equipment. As about 29 % of mechanization used in agriculture is for sowing. Seed drill reduces the density of crop sowing to 25 % and reduces the time required for sowing up to 1/3 compared to manual sowing. It yields 30 % more crops. It also prepares land and so requires less seed for sowing. The basic function of farming is to cultivate seeds in the farm. The lack of awareness of the new technologies and the high cost of the modern equipment acts as a barrier to the farmers for the utilization of modern technology. There is extreme need to remove these barriers and help for development of Indian farming sector. So, we aim to improve the modern seed drill, by optimizing it, making it user friendly and cost effective to the farmers for better farming and good crop production. We also try to ensure that the concept suggested will be easy to manufacture and easy to operate.
