Train collision prevention is still being a big concern before the Railway authorities. In case of collisions it is important to identify the location with in no time. In this project we are introducing a wireless collision detection and location system using GPS and GSM. The GPS (Global Positioning Systems) have revolutionized in the area of location identification Positioning System (GPS) satellites broadcast signals from space that GPS receivers, use to provide three-dimensional location (latitude, longitude, and altitude) plus precise time. GPS receivers provides reliable positioning, navigation, and timing services to worldwide users on a continuous basis in all weather, day and night, anywhere on or near the Earth.
In the proposed system an accelerometer is used to detect Train collision. The accelerometer provides 3 dimensional data according to its own position. If collision is detected the GPS module collects the data of the current location and the exact position is informed to authorities using GSM technology. A GSM modem is a specialized modem which accepts SIM card and operates over a subscription to a mobile operator, just like a mobile phone. A GSM modem exposes an interface that allows applications such as to send and receive messages over the modem interface. The microcontroller collects the data from the GPS module and sends the data to the GSM in the SMS format.
