Abstracts: Poker is a family of card games involving betting and individual play, whereby the winner is determined by the ranks and combinations of their cards, some of which remain hidden until the end of the game. Texas hold'em (also known as hold'em or hold’em ) is a vaiation of the standard card game of poker. In standard poker, each player is betting that the hand he or she has will be the highest ranked. The action then proceeds clockwise around the table and each player in turn must either match the maximum previous bet or fold., losing the amount bet so far and all further interest in the hand. A player who matches a bet may also "raise," or increase the bet. The betting round ends when all players have either matched the last bet or folded. If all but one player fold on any round, then the remaining player collects the pot and may choose to show or conceal their hand. If more than one player remains in contention after the final betting round, the hands are revealed and the player with the winning hand takes the pot. Texas hold'em consists of two cards being dealt face down to each player and then five community cards being placed face-up by the dealer-a series of three("the flop") and then two additional single cards("the turn" and "teh river" ), with players having the option to check, bet, raise,or fold after each deal. You may have heard the saying that the “house always has the advantage” Video poker is an exception to that rule.Video poker, an extremley popular computerized version of the traditional game of poker, offers many opportunities for mathematical analysis. Often, an optimal strategy exists which can, in the long run, assure a player of winning more than he bet. Video poker is an electronic form of five-cards. The player is dealt five cards and is allowed to replace any number of them by an equal number of cards drawn from the unseen deck. The rank of the resulting hand determines the amount paid out to the player.
