AIDS: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
AIDS is a retroviral disease.
Caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
Characterised by profound immunosuppresion
HIV/AIDS Transmission
By having sex with an infected partner.
By sharing needles or syringes that are contaminated with blood from an infected person.
Transmission of HIV to babies during pregnancy or birth etc.
HIV/AIDS Symptoms and Signs
Common symptoms AIDS include:
loss of appetite,
recurring fever or profuse night
sweats
headache,
tiredness,
enlarged lymph nodes in the neck,
profound and unexplained fatigue
HIV/AIDS Diagnosis
HIV infection is commonly diagnosed by blood tests.
Testing for HIV is usually a two-step process. First, an inexpensive screening test is done. If that test is positive, a second test Western blot is done to confirm the result.

HIV/AIDS Medications
The different classes of medications used in treatment:
Reverse transcriptase inhibitors
Protease inhibitors (PIs)
Integrase inhibitors
Fusion inhibitors
HIV Prevention
Abstain from sex.
Have sex with a single partner who is uninfected
Use a condom in other situations.
Do not share needles or inject illicit drugs.
If you have engaged in risky behaviors, get tested to see if you have HIV.

AIDS awareness is conducted by:
direct education on HIV/AIDS and sexually
transmitted diseases
health camps.
street plays and puppet shows
films and printed literature
motivating children to take tests and treatment follow-ups etc.
