IT has revolutionised the world, has sped up communications, we now take for granted
knowing worldwide news instantly, rather than waiting days to know about news. There have
been disadvantages to the new way of working:
Advantages
· We now live a faster, easier life, and we can do more interesting jobs.
· Work fewer hours and more leisure times as work is quicker.
· To keep up with other people we need to use IT
· Many aspects of our modern life would simply be impossible without IT
· New jobs are being created by the introduction of IT e.g. programming, network
managing etc.
· You can communicate and socialise immediately.
Disadvantages
· Jobs have been de-skilled
· Life without IT is slower and less stressful.
· Computers can do a job more cheaply than a person, so people will be phased out of the
factory scene.
· The new jobs being created by the use of IT are only for highly skilled and qualified
people.
· The people who did the boring repetitive jobs now done by computers no longer have a
job.
· The storage of personal data held on computer has eroded people's privacy.
