INTRODUCTION:-
The fluorescent lamp is an electric lamp consisting of a glass tube, coated on the inside with a fluorescent substance that gives off light when acted upon by electricity. Fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps are the two major sources of electric light today. However, fluorescent lamps produce 3.5 times as much light per watt, have much longer lives and often cost less than the corresponding models of incandescent lamps.

ORPAT and PHILIPS are the largest manufacturers in India. They altogether share a market share of over 40%. They roll out nearly 2 lakhs CFL lamp every year on individual basis. PHILIPS sells its lamp at Rs 210/per piece whereas ORPAT sells at Rs 180/per CFL lamp whereas the production cost comes around Rs 120/per lamp. There focus is mainly on the newly electrified village and small towns. Both these companies claim that their products are 40% more power savers.
