Medical Research Council invites applications with focus on Systems Biology
Description
: The Medical Research Council, UK (MRC) has issued a 'highlight notice' to invite proposals which take a systems biology approach to medical research 'systems medicine'. Systems biology describes the study of complex systems, with emphasis on how interactions between components of biological systems underlie the behaviour of the system as a whole. It is typified by the generation and testing of models of complex processes (generally quantitative and computational) to explain and predict biological phenomena, and combines iterative cycles of theory, modelling and experiments.
While the MRC already supports some medically-related research in this area, it now wishes to build on the research & training foundations laid by other research councils. Applications in systems medicine will be welcomed across the MRC’s broad remit, especially at programme-level. The MRC recognises the importance of collaborating with leading groups internationally, and would particularly like to encourage applications of this type.
India-UK Scientific Seminars This scheme is for mid-career scientists
who want to organise a small three-day scientific seminar between groups of scientists from India and the UK.The meeting may take place in either the UK or India and may have up to 20 attendees (5 from the visiting country and up to 15 from the host country). The scheme is intended to encourage scientific discussion and to promote collaboration and knowledge transfer by encouraging interaction within the wide research community.
The award holders are responsible for all aspects of organising and delivering the scientific content of the meetings, as well as finding a suitable venue and accommodation for all participants. There must be a clear strategy for securing long-term sustainable funds for the continuation of their research collaboration.
The scheme is administered by the Royal Society on behalf of the UK's Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) and jointly run by India's Department of Science & Technology (DST).
The British Academy
: International Partnership and Mobility Scheme (South Asia) The British Academy invites applications towards an International Partnership and Mobility Scheme aimed at building partnerships between UK scholars and scholars in South Asia. Awards cover any branch of the humanities and social sciences, and are intended to focus on collaborative research on a specific theme of mutual interest, rather than purely on establishing networks. Eligibility: Applicants must be of postdoctoral or equivalent status (i.e. academic staff with at least one or two years of teaching/ research experience) and should be based within a research active institution for the duration of the award. Level of Grant: Grants are offered up to a maximum of £10,000 per year for a period of one year or three years.
Biomedical Research Fellowship Programme for India Description
- The Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance is an £ 80 million initiative funded equally by The Wellcome Trust, UK and Department of Biotechnology, India. The broad aim of the India Alliance is to capacity build the Indian scientific community with outstanding biomedical scientists. To achieve this we provide competitive Fellowships across the full spectrum of biomedical science: from fundamental biology through to clinical and public health research. Fellows are provided research related expenses, a competitive salary, as well as funds for international travel, collaborative visits and staff. Funding is provided for science graduates at key stages of their research careers. Clinical researchers, public health researchers
