ABSTRACT
The Vehicle Tracking System having a GPS receiver which identifies the position of the vehicle. This position is sent to the monitoring station through GSM. The monitoring station having a system with JAVA front-end. Here a database is created in which the details of vehicle and the list of locations are being listed. Also, there is list of nearby police stations and hospitals corresponding to the locations. Monitoring stations receives the data through GSM. This project is implemented using PIC16F877A micro-controller. GSM and GPS are interfaced to themicro-controller. In the PC there is a user interface designed using JAVA SWING. In the user interface there is space for the user to enter his password, after entering the password the JAVA program will check the password and if the password is correct, we will select the vehicle and then automatically display the position of the vehicle
INTRODUCTION
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Vehicle tracking is to implement a system that can be used to manage emergency situations in running vehicles. Currently there are no proper devices or equipments that can inform to the world than an emergency has occurred in a remote vehicle or a in a large conveyance system like train. It takes time when the related authorities get clear information about the occurrence the event and so a proper action is delayed. Timely information about occurrence of such an event is very critical and it helps to carry out rescue operations at the earliest possible. In our project the aim is to develop a system that gives the exact location of the vehicle at the time of emergency plus implementation of a centralized monitoring station that takes necessary actions when an emergency message is received.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
‘Vehicle Tracking’ is a micro controller based project designed for wireless communication purpose between client and server .This system is used for duplex transmission of data .The data(units used)is accepted as a count by the PIC .The input to the PIC is the pulse received from the Electronic device .This message is transmitted to a server as when a requested by the server .The project uses GSM transmission protocol to establish the connection between client and server.
Vehicle Part:
In this section the micro controller keeps processing the data from the GPS .The data processed is stored in the micro controller .Temperature and pressure sensors are used to determine whether disaster has happened or not .The reference value to which the outputs of the sensors are to be compared are written in the program itself .So micro controller analysis the values from the two sensors and the output from the GPS simultaneously .When any of the values from the sensors goes above the reference value, a message is send to the center monitoring that a disaster has happened at location[obtained from GPS].The message is send using GSM modem. ASIM has to be inserted in the GSM modem ,the message is send using that SIM .Once the SIM is inserted into the GSM modem it acts as a mobile phone.
TRANSMITTER SECTION
When a transmitter is used to transmit or send message or data to any receiving system or any station. When an external pressure or temperature varied at the time of accident occurred then, pressure or temperature sensor activated and also GSM automatically activated. So the transmitted to GSM. Here we use a PIC16F877A Microcontroller to count the pulses and after a specific preset number of pulses it increments the units.MAX232 is used as an interface between PIC and he GSM module. This is to ensure that the data is transmitted serially to the GSM. The unit value is transmitted through GSM. An LCD module interfaced with the PIC connected to the pressure or temperature sensor to display the messages.
RECEIVER SECTION
This section deals with the processing of data received from different users. The server sends a request to the module installed at user’s end along with the specific address from where or any particular locations have to be transmitted back. When the required information is transmitted back, the server reads and stores it. It then locate the spot. This message is then transmitted back to the user where the accident or message details are displayed on an LCD.

SYSTEM STUDY
System study is the process of gathering and interpreting the facts, diagnosing the problems, and using the information to recommend improvements to the system. Basically system study is done to understand the system and its problems carefully. Finally, systems study tells ‘what the system should do’ to overcome the existing problems.
EXISTING SYSTEM
Existing system is a manual system. When an accident is occurred in a particular place, the victim or other peoples will call to the police station, hospital or ambulance to send message are the police or ambulance to the current place after sending message.
Problems with Existing System
Existing manual system requires the more time for sending message. The information sending to police station or hospital is so late, then the dead rate is increases due the lack of casual treatment.
PROPOSED SYSTEM
The proposed system, Vehicle tracking, is a fully automated message sending system. When an accident is occurred then external pressure or temperature variation is occurred, so temperature or pressure sensor is activated and message is automatically send through GSM
FEASIBILITY STUDY
All projects are feasible when given unlimited resources and infinite time. It is both necessary and prudent to evaluate the feasibility of a project at the earliest possible time. A feasible study is not warranted for system in which economic justification is observed, technical risk is low, few legal problems are expected and no reasonable alternative exists. An estimate is made of whether the identified user needs may be satisfied using our recent software and hardware technologies. The study will decide off the proposed system will be cost effective, from the business point of view and it can be developed in the existing budgetary CONSTRAINTS. The feasibility study should be relatively sharp and quick; the gesture should inform the decision of whether to go ahead with a more detailed analysis. Feasibility study may be documented as a separated report to higher officials of the top level management can be included as appendices to the system specification. Feasibility and risk analysis is detailed in many worries. If there is more project risk then the feasibility of producing the quality software is reduced.
Economical Feasibility
A cost evaluation is weighed against ultimate income or benefit derived from the developed system or product. Economic justification is generally the “Bottom line” consideration that includes cost benefit analysis, long term income strategies, impact on other profit centers or product, cost of resources needed for development and potential market growth. When compared to the advantage obtained from implementing the system its cost is affordable. Also system is designed to meet the modification required in the future. Therefore most of the modification can be done without much rework.
The economical feasibility of the proposed system is checked and accepted by both the users and the management of the organization. Since the proposed system has to deal with sensitive data like software codes of organization the economic feasibility proved that it is economical and it can help the organization to avoid financial disaster due to the loss of data. Since the proposed system is developed using the available resources in the organization. Since cost input for the software is almost nil, the output of the software is always a profit. Hence the economical feasibility study of the proposed system found that the system is economically feasible.
