TRIGONOMETRY
Trigonometry is derived from Greek words Trigonon (means ‘Triangle’) and Metron (means ‘Measurement’).
Trigonometry is a branch of mathematics which deals with the relationships between the sides and the angles of a triangle.
Types of Trigonometry
There are two types of Trigonometry.
Plane Trigonometry
It deals with Two dimensional
triangles.
Spherical Trigonometry
It deals with Three dimensional
triangles.
PYTHAGORAS THEOREM
In any right triangle, the area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of areas of the squares whose sides are the two legs.
APPLICATION OF TRIGONOMETRY IN ASTRONOMY
In Ancient times, Trigonometry was used in Astronomy.
The technique of Triangulation is used to measure the distance between nearby stars.
In 240 B.C., a mathematician named Eratosthenes discovered the radius of the Earth using trigonometry and geometry.
In 2001, a group of European astronomers did an experiment that started in 1997 about the distance of Venus from the Sun.
APPLICATION OF TRIGONOMETRY IN MEDICINE
Computers utilize trigonometry to establish the shades and colors of images on a screen. A system called triangulation maps out the shape of the object and uses trigonometric functions to establish the colors of the images. This process has significant uses in medicine. MRI machines scan your body and display the color image on a computer screen. Medical professionals use the results to determine the cause and location of cancers and tumors.
