An introduction to wind mills
Wind energy is the kinetic energy associated with the movement of atmospheric air.
Wind turbines used in the wind mills transforms this K.E into mechanical power which can then be used to produce electrical power.
The power generation on large scale is not achievable but small wind power units will play a vital role in the present condition of shortage.
classification of wind mills
According to the axis of rotation ,wind mills are mainly classified into two,
Horizontal axis wind mill
Vertical axis wind mill
According to no of blades used horizontal wind mills are again classified as
Horizontal axis two blades wind mills
Horizontal axis single blade wind mills
Horizontal axis multi blade wind mills
vertical axis wind mill
The axis of rotation is vertical
They will react to wind
from any direction and
there fore do not need
to turn the rotor into
the wind.
Require less structural
Support because parts
like gear box & generator
Can be located at ground.
The rotor is not subjected
to continuous gravity loads .
so chance for fatigue is small ,
compared to horizontal machines
MISSION
To utilize the wind energy resources in the country in an optimal manner and there by contribute to the country’s quest for affordable , clean energy as well as energy security.
To spread awareness about the benefits of wind energy and the crucial role it can play in ensuring a sustainable path for the country’s economical and social development.
