Wind Power in Distribution Systems: An Introduction
INTRODUCTION
The chapter aims at providing a basic discussion of the relevant issues related to wind
power in distribution system. It will discuss issues like voltage control, short circuit power
etc. The chapter main aim is to refresh the readers understanding about distribution system
and wind power and to provide the relevant formulas. Furthermore, example will be used to
illustrate the formulas and the impact of wind power in the distribution system.
Text example:
There are three possible ways of connecting a wind power plant to the grid; A synchronous
generator, an asynchronous generator or through a converter. One important restriction is
here how to keep the voltage in the connection point. In this connection point there may be
consumers or other generators. In reality the voltage has to be kept within certain limits, at
least ± 10 %, often a more tight interval. The possibility of doing this depends on the
strength of the grid and the possibilities of voltage control in the wind power plant.
