INTRODUCTION
Input unit accepts coded information
The information received is stored in memory
Arithmetic And Logic Unit (ALU) performs arithmetic and logic operations.
Processing are determined by program
Output unit gives result
All these actions are coordinated by CU
INPUT UNIT
Accept coded information through input unit.
For storage and processing , corresponding data is converted into digital codes(for capturing audio signals) and also to binary codes.
Example: 1Mice
2.Keyboard
3.Mouse
4.Joystick
5.Trackballs
MEMORY UNIT
Function: Stores program and data
Types
Primary storage
RAM
CACHE MEMORY
Secondary memory
Hard disk
Optical disks(CD-ROMs)
RAM- Random Access Memory
Cost is less when compared with primary storage devices.
It is used to store large number of data and programs.
This storage device is used to access data or information that is accessed infrequently.
ARITHMETIC AND LOGIC UNIT (ALU)
Most of the computer operation is done in the arithmetic and logic unit.
When operands are brought into processor, they stored in high speed storage elements called registers.
Arithmetic and logic unit are many times faster than other devices connected to a computer system.
CONTROL UNIT
Input, Memory, Arithmetic and logic, output and control unit must coordinated in some way is the task of the control unit.
Control unit is the nerve center that sends the control signals to the other unit.
Time signals are generated by the control units.
Sequence of operations:
1.Accept the information
2.Information stored in memory
3.Processed information leaves to output unit
4.All the activities are directed by control unit
