Abstract
The main motivation of this project is to drive contribute towards Women safety by helping citizen security which is a primal need of the hour. The proposed device is a wearable one that is location aware and stays connected to the user phone via a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) signal. By pressing the button it will send a SOS message in the form of an MMS, which will capture the current location of the victim and send it to the emergency contacts, such as social networking platform or Police station. The system will also consist of an Android App (iBeacon) which will be used to obtain important information from the user such as emergency contacts and will be used to send the SOS. Also, incorporating features like sending an SOS over by using the carrier services along with the data services. The aim is to increase the chances of being saved in times of distress. The proposed work shows a flexible and interoperable combination of a device and application that will accessorize and empower the citizens and serve as a multifunctional device.
Introduction
The ever increasing rate of crime on women and elderly has been a cause for alarming concern among citizens all around the world. The proposed device is a wearable one that provides location aware and stays connected to the user’s phone via a Bluetooth Low Energy signal (BLE). This device can send a SOS message in the form of MMS which will capture the current location of the victim and send it to the emergency contacts. This system also consists of an Android app which will be used to obtain important information from the user such as emergency contact.
This system makes use of
• AT89S52 Microcontroller
• Relay
• Panic switch
• Mobile
Implementation
iBeacon is a protocol developed by Apple and introduced at the Apple World Wide Developers Conference in 2013.Various vendors have since made Ibeacon – compatible hardware transmitters typically called beacons – a class Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) devices that broadcast their identifier to nearby portable electronic devices. The technology enables Smartphone, tablets and other devices to perform actions when in close proximity to an iBeacon.
iBeacon users Bluetooth Low Energy proximity sensing to transmit a universally unique identifier picked up by a compatible app or operating system. The identifier and several bytes send with it can be used to determine the device physical location, track customers or trigger a location based action on the device such as a check-in on social media or a push notification. This is similar to previously used Geo-push Technology based on GPS, but with a much reduced impact on battery life and much extended precision.
Bluetooth operates at frequencies between 2402 and 2480MHz, or 2400 and 2483.5MHz including guard bands 2MHz wide at the bottom end and 3.5MHz wide at the top. This is in the globally unlicensed industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) 2.4GHz short range radio frequency band. Bluetooth uses a radio technology called frequency hopping spread spectrum. Bluetooth divides transmitted data into packets and transmits each packet on one of 79 designated Bluetooth channels. It is a packet based protocol with a master-slave structure. One master may communicate with up to 7 slaves in a piconet. All devices share the master’s clock.
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is a part of the Bluetooth 4.0 specification which was released back in 2010. It originated in 2006 in Nokia as Wired, but has since been merged into Bluetooth. It is a different set of protocols that “classic” Bluetooth and devices are not backwards compatible.
The main focus in BLE is of course low energy consumption. For example, some beacons can transmit a signal for two years on a single cell battery. Both “classic” and LE Bluetooth use the same spectrum range (2.4GHz-2.4835GHz). The BLE protocol has lower transfer rate, however it’s not mean to stream a lot of data, but rather for discovery and simple communication. In terms on range, both LE and “classic” Bluetooth signal can reach up to 100 meters.
Beacons use only the advertisement channel. As the “beacon” name suggests, they transmit packets of data in regular intervals, and this data can be then picked up by devices like Smartphone. Hence iBeacons are simply a specific usage of BLE advertisements, with some additional support on IOS side.
Working
This system makes use of a microcontroller which is a major component of this system which will send a signal to the iBeacon once the switch is pressed. Once the panic switch is pressed the port pins of the microcontroller will send a signal to the iBeacon which will further send a message via relay to the iBeacon hardware design. This hardware of iBeacon will further send a message to the mobile phone once the tracking is switched on and will show the details regarding the position of the victim to the group of contacts saved in the phone. The same is seen in the public server such as police station, etc.
Existing system
The world in today’s time is becoming increasingly unsafe, especially for women. According to National Crime Records Bureaus annual Crime in India publication, “24,923 rape cases in 2012, 45,351 cases of molestation and 9,173 cases of verbal harassment of women” have been recorded. According to a survey conducted by WHO, Almost 35% of the woman, regardless of where they live experience sexual assault. Crimes against the elderly have seen an 8- 11% spurt. Citizens at every walk of life are harassed these days, in public spaces, irrespective of gender and age. Some victims of such circumstances stand up to the accused while others choose to live their life in silence. Every day there seems to be an unspoken war on streets.
Disadvantages
Tracking was difficult
Not able to find exact location
Proposed system
iBeacon technology uses low cost Bluetooth Low Energy signalling to enable micro-location services and to trigger actions within apps. A woman with a mobile phone only needs to pass by the Bluetooth signal to be tracked by an application. The application can be programmed to do anything from a running "where was she at xx:xx time of day?" to "was she at the place she said she would be at 2:00pm?". This technology used to provide safety tracking of women and young people who (due to lack of after school programs) hang out in US malls every day. Use iBeacon technology to track and "check in" on women and children in urban environments with automated low cost Bluetooth devices. Women and young people who can be tracked easily in an urban environment, law enforcement will can access information quickly, families who want to "check in" on their loved one's travel, retailers who participate (increased foot traffic), shop kick (or other corporate sponsor) who will have more users in their system, women/young people who will earn "rewards" for using the technology (assuming a corporate sponsor)
Advantages
• Provide high security
• Easy tracking method
• Avoid the risk of women missing
Applications
• Defense purpose
• International Airport
• Human Tracking
Conclusion
Through the development of iBeacon technology, the rate of crime occurred to women who hangouts has been decreased. This proposed device helps us to get the information about the location and time of the crime occurs while pressing the panic switch. This technology able to track the person quickly as possible and sending the information to the server located at the police station.
This will enhance the security of the women with additional reliability and flexibility. The panic switch can be placed in accessories like chain, watches, etc. This enhances the compatibility of the device and reduces the size of the system.
