Panki Thermal Power Station is located in Panki in the Kanpur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, about 16 km from Kanpur. It has an installed capacity of 220 Mega Watts. The power plant is owned and operated by Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam. It is in the KANPUR district about 15 KM from the KANPUR railway station on the KALPI road. KANPUR is well connected by air / rail and road to all major cities.
Operations
The plant was established in two stages, both with two units. The first stage is no longer in operation. The machinery for the second stage is from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. Coal to all these units is fed from the coal mines of Bharat Coking Coal Limited, Coalfields Eastern Limited by rail. The last unit was commissioned in 1977.
Future expansion
The state government decided in July 2014 to add another 660 MW unit to the power plant.
