Android OS: A robust, free, open-source operating system for mobile devices
Android OS.docx (Size: 20.92 KB / Downloads: 98) ABSTRACT: Mobile devices have seen an extensive amount of development in recent years, but one question is still looming and nobody seems to have the answer: what is ’standard’ for the mobile platform? Many companies have already written their own in-house operating systems for the devices they manufacture such as Symbian or iPhone OS. However, with the existence of so many closed-source operating systems, no rational company would want to disclose their secrets and lose their edge on the competition. This presents a problem where software developers can’t write their code to be generalized. The Android team hopes to solve this on two levels. Firstly, it seeks to arrive at a common open-source operating system that any mobile device can run on. Secondly, it seeks to make developing applications for these mobile phones more general and hardware-agnostic.

Android Operating System
Android Operating.doc (Size: 3.84 MB / Downloads: 77) Among all the mobile operating systems, Android is a complete and modern embedded operating system. It gives a complete free platform for Smartphones. It has world-class software stack for building applications, shown in figure. It is composed of an operating system, middleware and application programs. The bottom layer of Android is an embedded operating system, Linux 2.6. By utilizing Application Framework and Libraries, the developers can easily build their applications. It gives an open platform for developers, users and industry. Android includes a set of core libraries that provides most of the functionality available in the core libraries Android SDK A software development kit that enables developers to create applications for the Android platform. The Android SDK includes sample projects with source code, development tools, an emulator, and required libraries to build Android applications. Applications are written using the Java programming language and run on Dalvik, a custom virtual machine designed for embedded use which runs on top of a Linux kernel Applications Android will ship with a set of core applications including an email client, SMS program, calendar, maps, browser, contacts, and others. All applications are written using the Java programming language. Application Framework By providing an open development platform, Android offers developers the ability to build extremely rich and innovative applications. Developers are free to take advantage of the device hardware, access location information, run background services, set alarms, add notifications to the status bar, and much, much more. Underlying all applications is a set of services and systems, including: A rich and extensible set of that can be used to build an application, including lists, Views grids, text boxes, buttons, and even an embeddable web browser that enable applications to access data from other applications (such as Content Providers Contacts), or to share their own data A , providing access to non-code resources such as localized strings, Resource Manager graphics, and layout files A that enables all applications to display custom alerts in the status Notification Manager bar An that manages the lifecycle of applications and provides a common Activity Manager navigation backstack. Bluetooth APIs in Android Android Bluetooth APIs accomplish the four major tasks necessary to communicate using Bluetooth: setting up Bluetooth, finding devices that are either paired or available in the local area, connecting devices, and transferring data between devices. All of the Bluetooth APIs are available in the android.bluetooth package. Here's a summary of the classes you will need to create Bluetooth
