Bharat Earth Movers Limited, now known as BEML (बी एम एल एल), is a public sector enterprise in India, headquartered in Bengaluru. It manufactures a variety of heavy equipment, such as used for earth moving, transportation and mining. BEML was established in May 1964 and began operations on January 1, 1965. The Indian Ministry of Defense controlled and operated in full until 1992, when the government ceded 25% of its holdings in the company. BEML is the second-largest manufacturer of earth moving equipment in Asia and controls 70% of India's market in that sector. Its shares are traded on the National Stock Exchange of India under the symbol "BEML" and on the Bombay Stock Exchange under the code "500048". The company went to Follow on Public offer (FPO) and set the price band for its FPO between Rs. 1.020 and Rs. 1.090.
Manufacturing Facilities
BEML has factories in Kolar Gold Fields, Bengaluru, Palakkad and Mysore. It has numerous regional offices throughout the country. The KGF unit is the main unit that represents the manufacture and assembly of a wide range of earth moving equipment such as Bulldozers and Excavators. Railways are made in the Bangalore complex and the Mysore facility makes dumpers and motors of various capacities.
Products
BEML manufactures a wide range of products to meet the needs of the Mining, Construction, Energy, Irrigation, Fertilizer, Cement, Steel and Railway sectors. The earth moving equipment includes Bulldozers, Dump Trucks, Hydraulic Excavators, Wheel Loaders, Rope Blades, Walking Draglines, Motor Graders and Scrapers.
BEML recently introduced road heads and slide discharge loaders for underground mining applications. Railroad products include Integral Rail coaches, Multiple Electrical Units, Rail Buses, Track Placing Equipment and Equipment Inspection Cars. BEML manufactures Heavy Duty Trucks and Trailers and hydraulic attachments for the transportation sector. The company also manufactures high-power diesel engines and heavy-duty hydraulic attachments to meet the specific needs of customers. The company plans to diversify into various activities, including underground mining equipment, underground petro-product storage, leasing and financial services and joint ventures abroad.
