Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (abbreviated BSNL) is a state-owned Indian telecommunications company based in New Delhi. It was constituted on September 15, 2000 and assumed control of the telecommunications services and the network management of the former departments of telecommunications services (DTS) and Telecom Operations (DTO) of the Central Government, with effect from 1 October 2000,. It is the largest provider of fixed telephony and broadband services with over 60% market share and India's fifth largest mobile provider. However, in recent years the company's revenues and market share have plummeted in large losses due to intense competition in the Indian telecommunications sector. BSNL is the oldest communications service provider in India. India and had a customer base of 93.29 million as of June 2015. It has footprints throughout India except Mumbai and New Delhi, which are managed by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL).
