Radiation curable coatings offer the solution to the problems associated with the conventional coating techniques. The advantages of U V curing over the conventional processes are high production rate, improved product performance, precise process control, no emission of volatile organic content (VOC) & room temperature processing. U V curable coatings generally comprises of acrylate based oligomers, reactive diluents and photo initiators. In the present work, polyurethane acrylate (PU) used as an oligomer and 1,6 hexane diol di acrylate (HDDA), dipropylene glycol di acrylate (DPGDA) and tri propylene glycol di acrylate (TPGDA) were used as reactive diluents. Several formulations comprising of oligomers and reactive diluents were used in this paper for studying the effect of reactive diluents on the performance properties of coating such as mechanical, optical, chemical and stain resistance properties. Performance properties have been evaluated on wood surface.
