Matching fingerprints remains a difficult problem for reliable people authentication because of the complex distortions involved in two finger prints of the same finger. Because the vast majority of fingerprint matching algorithms are based on minutiae comparison, minutiae information is considered to be highly significant features for the Automatic Fingerprint Recognition System. The accuracy of the AFRS system depends on image quality, image enhancement methods, feature set extraction algorithms, and preprocessing and post processing algorithms of the feature set.
Fingerprint Identification is a widely used biometric identification mechanism. So far, different techniques have been proposed to have a satisfactory fingerprint identification. The widely used minute-based representation is not a significant combination of the rich discriminatory information available on fingerprints. The local crest structures could not be completely characterized by minutiae. The proposed filter-based algorithm uses a Gabor filter bank to capture local and global details on a fingerprint as a compact fixed-finger code. The identification of the fingerprint is based on the Euclidean distance between the two corresponding finger codes and therefore is extremely fast and accurate than the minutiae based on one. The accuracy of the system is 98.22%. |
