ABSTRACT
This project deals with the technology global system for mobile communication, by combining the global system for mobile technology with embedded technology. Imagine being able to control all the electrical appliances from virtually any place you are in the world! The aim of this project is to investigate a cost effective solution that will provide controlling of appliances remotely i.e. control equipment from anywhere using Short message service .It can even text you when your alarm is activated. Using the convenience of short message service, this project lets us remotely control equipment by sending plain text messages, such as “MOTOR ON”, “MOTOR OFF”, “ RESET” and also receives the status of appliances, all of which can be preprogrammed into the controller and easily remembered later. The system software driver is also developed using an Assembly or interactive C-programming language platform.
A mobile phone is used in sending the text messages to receiver handset through a mobile network, at the other end the handset receives the short message service and interfaces with the ATMEGA-8515 microcontroller. The microcontroller switches the appliances ON or OFF through the relay circuits depending on the message and sends the device status to the mobile units.
This system provides ideal solution to the problems faced in our daily lives. The system is short message service based and uses wireless technology to revolutionalize the standards of living, as the system is wireless therefore more adaptable and cost-effective. This system uses global system for mobile technology thus providing ubiquitous access to the system for security and automated appliance control.
In this project we explored ways of extending this notion of automation by applying mobility to it using various technologies that are available in our information age. These technologies include mobile communicating devices and microcontroller interface which are becoming part of our everyday lives.
