The coconuts are usually peeled with a machete or a spike manually. These procedures require skilled labor that is exhausting to use and steps are used to develop roughing tools. These are partially successful and are not effective in replacing manual procedures. The failure of these tools is due to unsatisfactory and incomplete deflation, to the breaking of the coconut shell during deflation, to the deterioration of the useful coir, to a greater effort than to manual methods, etc.
