INTRODUCTION
Background to the study
The influence of parental attitude on female education is a major determining factor that made the society not to see female as capable of independent and aspirations or endowed with the same level of intelligence as their male counterparts. Quite early in life, a girl is trained to play the role expected of her by the society. Societal expectations determine the curriculum content but the method varied among female’s communities. Thus education for womenry traditionally was informal, often done by her parents and members of the extended family. Different families trained their daughters the way they deemed fit, provided it did not go contrary to societal norms.
Theoretical framework
Intellectual research in recent years is always associated or linked with a particular theoretical basis to give direction to the study. Hence, this study is dependent upon the following theories:
1) The stimulus-Response theory of Thorndike, Ivan Pavlov, Skinner, etc.
2) The motivational theory of Abraham Maslow, and
3) The Behavioural Reinforcement theory of Clarke Hull.
Statement of the problem
The study therefore is bent on identifying those variables which make parents view female education with interest or detest. Western education has not only in the past but still at present given parents means of livelihood.
