The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is a state-owned road transport company in the state of Karnataka in India. KSRTC has the largest fleet of Volvo buses among the state owned transportation companies.
History
KSRTC was created in 1961 under the provisions of the Road Transport Corporation Act, 1950. It is wholly owned by the Karnataka Government. In August 1997, KSRTC was split to form the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transportation Corporation (BMTC). Another new road transport company called the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) was established in November 1997 to meet the transportation needs of the northwestern parts of Karnataka. Subsequently, the Northwest Road Transport Corporation of Karnataka (NEKRTC) was established with its corporate office in Gulbarga.
KSRTC has its corporate office in Bangalore. At present, it encompasses seventeen Districts (Bengaluru Urban, Ramanagar, Kolar, Chickballapur, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Shivamogga, Mangaluru, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajnagar, Coorg). It has 15 total divisions - 14 operating divisions namely. Central Bangalore, Ramanagar, Tumkur, Kolar, Chickballapur, Mysuru City, Mysuru Rural, Mandya, Chamarajnagar, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Mangaluru, Puttur, Davanagere and 1 bus station division namely: To create a new division in Chitradurga. 79 Deposits, 2 Regional Workshops, 1 Central Training Institute, 2 Regional Training Institutes, 1 Printing and 1 Hospital. It has a workforce of about 37019 employees. It operates 26.65 lakh km / day with a fleet of 8348 vehicles (Volvo 190, Volvo Multi Axle 141, Volvo City 50, Mercedes-Benz 10, Mercedes-Benz Multi Axle 20, Corona Sleeper 74, Corona Seater 7, Scania 56, Tata 4605 , Ashok Leyland 2856, Eicher 336 and Swaraj Mazda 3), earns traffic revenue of Rs. 747.08 lakh daily catering to 26.18 lakh passengers in average. It is placed in the fifth place among STU of the Nation by size.
