Founded in 1945, Western India Plywoods Ltd. started manufacturing sawn timber and plywood on a modest scale with some indigenous and rendered machinery. The company was founded by Shri. ALASKA. Kaderkutty Saheb, grandfather of the current managing director Mr. Mayan Kutty Mohammed and father of the former managing director Mr. P K Mohammed Kutty, deceased in 2014.
The company planned and executed the hardboard plant between 1956 and 1958 with an initial installed capacity of 12.5 tons of hardboard per day. Fabrication of Densified Boards Wood was initially started on a small scale as part of the plywood plant. An Industrial License was obtained in 1974 for the manufacture of Densified Wood with a capacity of 2000 M.T. annually. Since then, the Company has been producing densified wood components mainly required by electric, textile.
