A microcontroller-based power management system (PMS) designed for the on-line operation of a low-voltage experimental micro-red equipped with a battery storage system and two power supplies: a proton exchange membrane fuel cell ( PEM) and a photovoltaic (PV) module emulator, both connected to a low voltage AC node. Connections from power sources to the common AC bus make use of power inverters with specific functionalities. The AC node feeds active load emulators and electrical reactors capable of reproducing programmable profiles. The automatic PMS provides micro-grid monitoring and FC power programming in both grid-connected and isolated operating conditions. The document describes the structure and functionalities of the SMP as well as specific experimental research to assess the dynamic performance of the micro-grid in Icelandic conditions.
